Essential Question:

During his career as a civil rights lawyer, Marshall’s tenacity and commitment to upholding the Reconstruction Amendments allowed him to advance educational, economic and political equality for all Americans. Each case became a foundation he could build upon for bigger and more impactful gains. His dedication to democracy led to his appointment to the Supreme Court in 1967.
